Biographies

June 2021 - August 2021

In summer 2021 as we bridge the distant ‘back then’ with the not-so-sacred ‘now.’ This series of messages calls out the similarities of age-locked peoples who aren’t so different from us. Their stories are life changers. Sometimes they confront, sometimes they comfort, sometimes they inspire. And almost always, they lead to a continuing love affair with Scripture. Join us online or in-person, June 26/27 through August 28/29.

Abraham

Abraham

Do you consider yourself 'called'? Sometimes it seems as though only pastors or international worker's speak about their 'calling', but like Abraham, we're all called, to 'be a blessing.' What is the nature of Divine calling and how can we arrive at a sense of calling ourselves?

Timothy

July 18, 2021
Do you think you're too broken to make an impact on someone else's life? The story of Paul and Timothy in the bible is in part, about a deep, meaningful mentoring relationship. You don't need to have it all together. God can and will use you to speak into someone's life. You DO have something to offer.

Habakkuk

Habakkuk

July 25, 2021
Do you ever ask, 'God why aren't you listening? Why don't you do something? How come you allow so much suffering?' Well, you are not alone... and it's okay to feel that way, those are valid questions. Habakkuk, in the bible, asked the same questions. But he never rejects God, even though he doesn't understand His actions. It's a story about how to handle frustration, specifically frustration with God.

Priscilla & Aquila

Priscilla & Aquila

August 08, 2021
Priscilla and Aquila are a power couple from the pages of the New Testament. There isn’t lots written about them and yet quietly, from behind-the-scenes, God used them in incredible ways! Hand in hand, together they used whatever they had to advance God’s kingdom in their lifetime. Their impact is still being felt today.
They are an excellent example of our values here at Sherwood Park Alliance. A couple who lived out what it means to be Hospitable, Transformational and Missional.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 28:03.

Paul

Paul

August 15, 2021
Most of us live life reactively, almost always in response to our circumstances. One of the Bible's messages is... there's a better way to live. Paul lived his life with confident boldness. He had the ability to remain emotionally bold and confident, even joyful... no matter the circumstance.
If you aspire to live a life like Paul lived his, this mantra might help.
  1. Life is difficult
  2. Jesus is Lord
  3. I will rejoice
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 30:19.

Jonathan & David

Jonathan & David

August 22, 2021
We put a lot of focus on family and romantic relationships in day-to-day life—however, the life-giving power of friendship is also part of God’s divine design. This is something we see in the life of David and Jonathan. David was taken in by King Saul, Jonathan’s father, and from that day forward, David and Jonathan were inseparable.

Their friendship expresses a very valuable lesson: choosing to invest in deep, committed friendships takes intentionality and can be costly, but it’s one of God’s best gifts. Join us as we discuss the friendship of David and Jonathan.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 19.43.
Rahab

Rahab

August 29, 2021
Rahab—a prostitute—was never expected to help protect two important men, let alone orchestrate their escape. But God sees beyond outward appearances, focusing on the heart and essence of who someone is. He saw her value and worth.
Rahab ends up being critical to Israel’s success. The author of Hebrews even acknowledges her as a hero of the faith and she is pointed to as a member of Jesus’ family tree (Matthew 1:5). Join us as we discuss the story of Rahab.
This is the full service. Sermon begins at 18:49.
